Liam Calhoun holds an Honours Bachelor of Music from Wilfrid Laurier University in viola performance, where he studied with members of the Penderecki String Quartet. He started music as a fiddle player in North Bay, eventually switching to classical violin and viola. Liam greatly enjoys performing in orchestral and chamber music settings, having experience as a section leader in the Wilfrid Laurier Symphony and and touring with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.
Teaching is something Liam is hugely passionate about, and loves imparting both the skills for technical excellence as well as a fine ear and great musicianship in his students. Creating lessons that are fun, challenging, and engaging is something that he strives for with each of his student. Liam also encourages each student to pursue their particular interest in violin playing that may lie beyond the Suzuki repertoire, and enjoys teaching the skills that allow students to improvise.
Liam enjoys staying active in music as a classical performer, playing jazz/pop/classical arrangements with Lisa Szczepanski, and writing electronic music in his drum & bass project Third Affinity.
